WOOF, escapaders! What can a yorkie bark out about Ljubljana? As the largest city AND alluring capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana is situated along the curving river Ljubljanica. Despite its famed Old Town and numerous museums, the city is often overlooked as a sniff-worthy destination by international travelers. Notably the richest city in the Balkans, Ljubljana is truly unique; it’s the city of dragons, a dynamic college town, and one of the greenest cities in Europe. Take a long sniff to discover what a small dog like me did on a wet nose escapade in Ljubljana, Slovenia:
#1 I secretly studied humans walking along the Ljubljanica.
I loved posting up at one of the many restaurants and cafes along the serene river and watching human locals and tourists (and of course, other dogs) go about their day.
#2 I wolfed down some amazing, chops-lickin’ Slovenian food.
From potato Slovenian sausage to potato goulash, I got more than my fair share of chomps before allowing my humans to finally take a bite. Gosh, I licked every single plate clean!
And, more sausage for me…(my humans don’t eat much meat)
#3 I discovered that I AM a bit afraid of dragons.
ARRRFFF, the alpha dog in me did NOT come prepared as I came face to face with such ferocious creature. This mythical creature appeared both terrifying and intriguing. As the leader of my pack, I fronted a growl and marked up his perch as my paws hurriedly walked past.
#4 I conquered every single park.
The greenery doesn’t seem to end in Ljubljana. Again, it IS one of Europe’s greenest cities. Needless to say, I had A LOT of work to do! Sniffing out the scene, marking up the spot, and then scratching the grounds with my hind legs – REPEAT until I conquered all, from Tivoli to Argentinski. HAH, these Slovenian dogs have nothing on me!
#5 I used an armrest for the first time.
Never felt the need to use an armrest made specifically for you humans, but I tried one for the first time here in Ljubljana! I may have some small arms (a.k.a. legs), but I can sure get used to the support. Not to mention, it makes me feel like the BOSS. 🙂
#6 Their international food scene impressed my little tummy.
DOG, did I eat here! Like A LOT of yummy paw-lickin’ goodies. And, it’s not all about Slovenian food. As a cosmopolitan city, Ljubljana has a lively international culinary scene. From gyoza to curry wraps, I happily gobble them down into my little tummy!
#7 I shopped at the farmer’s market.
As you may already know, I’m a HUGE veggie and fruit fan. I loved sniffing out fresh produce at the local farmer’s market (and having my humans pay for my exclusive picks).
#8 I felt bigger than the gigantic castle.
Sitting on Castle Hill, the Ljubljana Castle was a treat when once my four paws climbed up to Castle Hill. I caught my breath and smooth out my hair for some iconic IG photos. After posing with this former medieval fortress, I still didn’t realize how small I was compared to the gigantic castle. As a top dog, I came to conquer!
#9 The stunning city views captivated my yorkie heart.
My hike up to Castle Hill doesn’t fail to deliver! Just alongside the castle, I discovered some spectacular views of the city. And, of course, the air was oh-so-refreshing from the top!
#10 I wanted to lock my love on the bridge.
Argh, I stumbled upon some love locks but couldn’t find a girl to lock my heart. Perhaps it’s due to my perpetual commitment issues. Yes – it’s me, NOT you. Nonetheless, there was plenty of space on the bridge for more locks!
That’s it, escapaders! Hope you enjoyed sniffing out my escapade as a small dog in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Looking for more travel tips? Put a furry paw HERE!
Markin’ it up,
